KUMPULA PHYSICS COLLOQUIUM ON 14.12.2018 AT 14.15 IN D101
The final Kumpula Physics colloquium of 2018 will take place on Friday. Our speaker is physicist and atmospheric scientist Professor Ilona Riipinen from Stockholm University. Her work focuses on understanding the atmospheric processes governing air quality and global climate. In her talk, titled How clouds clean the air and influence the climate – and why should you care?, she will discuss the future of the Earth’s climate, the role of aerosols and clouds in it, and how it links to the choices we make in our everyday lives.
The talk will last about 30 minutes, after which there will be a cocktail reception. Welcome!

OPEN POSITION AT LBNL
The Physics Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) has an opening for a Staff Scientist to work half-time in the Particle Data Group (PDG, pdg.lbl.gov) and half-time on research in one of the Physics Division programs.
The successful candidate will be expected to take on significant responsibilities in the PDG group and play an important role in the Physics Division’s research program. Candidates in experimental and theoretical particle physics and cosmology are encouraged to apply.

Bilateral Funding Program for Scientific Cooperation Between France and Finland
For the third year the Institut Français in Helsinki, the Embassy of France in Finland and the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation have partnered with the Finnish Society for Sciences and Letters and the Finnish Academy for Science and Letters in Finland to open the call for proposals of the Maupertuis funding program to initiate and strengthen bilateral cooperation in science, innovation and higher education in fields of excellence between Finland and France.
There are four joint programs available:
1-French Renowned Scientist Conference Series (FRSCS)
2-Researchers Short Mobility program (RSM)
3- “Higher Education, Research and Innovation” Workshop (ERI-W)
4- NEW PhD cotutelle grant (PhD-G)
Deadline for the applications: 25 January 2019.

Aalto -yliopiston kemian tekniikan korkeakoulu julistaa haettavaksi Tapani Järvisen ympäristöteknologiarahastosta 10.000 euron suuruisen apurahan.
Apuraha myönnetään ansioituneelle ympäristöteknologian osaajalle tutkimus- ja kehitystyöhön. Apurahan tarkoituksena on edistää teollisuuden ympäristöteknologian tutkimusta ja tutkimustulosten hyödyntämistä teknologiatuotteina ja -palveluina.

The Runar Bäckström Foundation
The aim of the Runar Bäckström foundation is to encourage and support inventions that are beneficial to Finnish businesses and thereby strengthen their global competitiveness. The foundation assigns grants once a year. Individuals, work groups, companies or associations can apply for the grants. There are no formal qualifications for the grantees, such as a certain academic degree.
