DOCTORAL DEFENCE
Jani Kastikainen, FM will defend the doctoral dissertation entitled “Investigations of Boundaries and Branes in the Holographic Duality” in the Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki, on 19 June 2023 at 13. The public examination will take place at the following address: Chemicum, auditorio A129, A. I. Virtasen aukio 1, Helsinki.
Associate professor Diego Hofman, University of Amsterdam, will serve as the opponent, and Kimmo Tuominen as the custos.
The dissertation will be published in the series HIP-Internal Report Series.

The EDUFI Fellowship is intended, particularly, for providing initial funding to carry out research for a doctoral thesis in Finland.

The Finnish Cultural Foundation
In the October round of applications, it is possible to apply for a regular working and/or expenditure grant or a special purpose grant, such as Art for Everyone, Additional Million-euro Funding to Science, Science Education, DNA in Time and Space and Eminentia grants. Fulbright-Technology Industries of Finland Grants (Postdoc)
The Fulbright–Technology Industries of Finland Grant Program awards grants to postdoctoral researchers in the field of technology to carry out a research project in the U.S. The research should support the development of different fields of technology (electronics and electrical technology, machinery and metal technology, metallurgical industry, information technology, planning and consulting).

Instrumentarium Science Foundation’s Call for grants 2024
The Foundation’s primary role is to support medical, technical and scientific equipment and methods related research and economic research in these fields. The Foundation can also support other high-level basic research in medical, scientific and technological areas that promotes the Foundation’s purposes.
- Instrufoundation Fellow Grants
The Fellow grant á 150 000 Euros is intended for an independent researcher who has recently (approx. in the last two years) returned to Finland from abroad either to establish his or her own research group or to strengthen the researcher’s existing research group. The Fellow grant is intended to be used for research work in Finland during one year.

Alfred Kordelin Foundation
The Foundation awards grants for finalizing Ph.D. theses, and for research visits related to Ph.D. thesis work in various fields of science. A grant awarded for finalizing a Ph.D. thesis should lead to the thesis being submitted for pre-examination by the end of the grant period. Science grants are only awarded to private individuals.
