Director of the Detector Laboratory
The Director of the Detector Laboratory, chief engineer, doc. Eija Tuominen will move to another organization from the beginning of May. We thank Eija for all her work for HIP and the Detector Laboratory during many years!
The Board of HIP decided that staff scientist, doc. Matti Kalliokoski will be the Director of the Detector Laboratory until the second Board meeting of 2023, in which the issue will be decided for a longer term.

“In house operando x-ray studies of cathode materials for rechargeable batteries”
Abstract: In order to facilitate the transition towards green and sustainable we need to optimize and develop new battery technologies which requires a deep understanding of the structural and electronic transitions during battery operation. We utilize a combination of operando X-ray diffraction and absorption spectroscopy to probe these changes and correlate these to the electrochemical properties.

Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia on perustanut uuden Väisälä-hankeapurahan. Apuraha on tarkoitettu Suomessa toimivalle tutkijauran vakinaistamispolun alkuvaiheen tutkijalle oman tutkimusryhmän perustamiseen ja ryhmän tutkimuskuluihin. Vakinaistamispolun alkuvaiheen tutkijalla tarkoitetaan niin sanotun tenure trackin ensimmäisen vaiheen tehtävissä olevaa tutkijaa (assistant professor -taso). Teknologiateollisuuden 100-vuotissäätiö avaa suomalaisille yliopistoille suunnatun haun strategisen osaamisen vahvistamiseksi. Vuoden 2023 ohjelmassa haetaan kunnianhimoisia, tulevaisuuteen katsovia tutkimusavauksia. Painopisteenä on suomalaisen teollisuuden ja yhteiskunnan uudistumista kestävästi rakentavat teknologiat ja palvelumallit. Tavoitteena on käynnistää kunnianhimoisia tutkimushankkeita, joissa yhdistyvät kansainvälisesti huipputason tiede ja uuteen kasvuun tähtäävät strategiset avaukset.
