“Optimising and characterising refractory alloys with machine-learning interatomic potentials”
Abstract: Refractory medium- and high-entropy alloys are novel heat- and radiation-resistant materials composed of several refractory metals in significant concentrations. I will describe the OCRAMLIP project, where we will develop accurate machine-learning interatomic potentials to understand the atom-level mechanisms that control the key material properties, and perform a computational search and discovery of optimal alloy compositions.

Minna Luoma, FM will defend her doctoral dissertation entitled “New 𝛽-decay half-lives of heavy neutron-rich nuclei and performance studies of the GEM-TPC detector” on 10 November 2023 at 12:00. The public examination will take place at FYS1 of the Department of Physics, University of Jyväskylä. The opponent is Dr Karolina Kolos (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, USA) and the custos is Associate Professor Tuomas Grahn (University of Jyväskylä). The language of the dissertation is English.

The Magnus Ehrnrooth foundation awards grants annually for researchers working in mathematics, physics, astronomy, chemistry, and medical chemistry. The aim of the Runar Bäckström foundation is to encourage and support inventions that are beneficial to Finnish businesses and thereby strengthen their global competitiveness. Japani-Suomi Yhdistyksen Chujo Watanabe – rahastosta julistetaan haettavaksi yksi apuraha, suuruudeltaan JPY 300 000 käytettäväksi vuoden 2024 loppuun mennessä.
Apurahat on ensisijaisesti tarkoitettu Japanissa tapahtuvaan opiskelu- ja/tai tutkimustyöhön. Etusijalle asetetaan nuoret hakijat ja hakijalta edellytetään jonkinlaista japanin kielen taitoa. Aiempi osallistuminen Suomen ja Japanin väliseen ystävyystoimintaan on eduksi.
