The next Kumpula Physics Colloquium of the Autumn series will take place on Friday 18.12.2020 at 14:15 on the University Zoom meeting.

Our speaker is Sabrina Maniscalco, who is the new Professor in Quantum Information and Logic in the Department of Physics. She is also the Vice Director of the Finnish Centre of Excellence for Quantum Technologies. Her research interests include open quantum systems, quantum Brownian motion, as well as cold atoms and quantum tomography. Sabrina will talk about how combining quantum research with other fields of science could help tackle global challenges. The title of her talk is The Promise of Quantum. The talk will last about 30 minutes, after which there will be time for questions.

The next Kumpula Physics Colloquium of the Autumn series will take place on Friday 27.11.2020 at 14:15 on the University Zoom meeting.

 

Our speaker is Christer Fuglesang, who is a professor in Space Travel and the Director of the KTH Space Center in Stockholm. He is also the first astronaut from the Nordic Countries, who travelled to space twice, in 2006 and 2009. Christer will talk about his experience as an astronaut and his current projects. The title of his talk is “From KTH to Space: A story of space travel to ISS and future large projects”. The talk will last about 30 minutes, after which there will be time for questions.

Persons who recently have obtained their PhD may apply for a postdoctoral scholarship. The purpose of a postdoctoral scholarship is to enable the grantee to further develop as a researcher. Applicants for a postdoctoral scholarship may also apply for support for research related costs and travel. A separate application for these purposes must be made.

Graduate student scholarships

The graduate student stipend can be awarded for a period of one year or a half year, preferably for the period 1.7. – 31.12. to a student who has been accepted by the university as a doctoral student. The stipend can be awarded conditionally to a student about to graduate.

The first Kumpula Physics Colloquium of the Autumn series will take place on Friday 30.10.2020 at 14:15 on the University Zoom meeting.

 

Our speaker is Joonas Nättilä, who is a postdoctoral research scientist at Columbia University and a Flatiron Research Fellow at the Flatiron Institute’s Center for Computational Astrophysics in New York, USA. Joonas will give an overview on how supercomputer simulations can help shed new light on astrophysical turbulence. Business Finland – Partnership funding for companies and research organizations

Business Finland organized a competition where it challenged leading companies with international operations to resolve significant future challenges and increase their research, development and innovation investments in Finland. In the summer of 2020, three projects by four leading companies (Neste, Nokia, Metsä Group, Fortum) were selected as the winners.

 

Business Finland will now provide partnership funding for research, development and innovation projects related to the themes of these leading companies’ ecosystems.

  1. Study the roadmaps of the leading companies’ ecosystems.
  2. Discuss with the leading companies and Business Finland’s contact persons.
  3. Apply for funding by October 30, 2020.

Persons who recently have obtained their PhD may apply for a postdoctoral scholarship. The purpose of a postdoctoral scholarship is to enable the grantee to further develop as a researcher. Applicants for a postdoctoral scholarship may also apply for support for research related costs and travel. A separate application for these purposes must be made.

Graduate student scholarships

The graduate student stipend can be awarded for a period of one year or a half year, preferably for the period 1.7. – 31.12. to a student who has been accepted by the university as a doctoral student. The stipend can be awarded conditionally to a student about to graduate.
