Our speaker on Friday is our own Minna Palmroth, who will give an inaugural lecture to her colleagues here at the department, titled “Space is the new black!”. Minna is both Professor of Computational Space Physics and Director of the new Finnish Centre of Excellence in Research of Sustainable Space, and in her talk she will discuss the the commercialisation of space, the growth of startups focussing on satellites and the implications these and other factors have for our use of space as a shared resource.

The talk will last 30 minutes, after which there will be a cocktail reception. Welcome!

Emil Aaltosen säätiö.
The Emil Aaltonen Foundation offers grants as a rule to Finnish-speaking researchers only.

Säätiö myöntää apurahoja tieteelliseen tutkimustyöhön kaikille tieteenaloille ja jakaa apurahoja vuosittain yli 6 miljoonaa euroa, josta yli neljä miljoonaa euroa myönnetään henkilökohtaisina apurahoina tutkimustyön tekemiseen väitöskirjatyöntekijöille ja post doc –tutkijoille. Tämän lisäksi säätiö myöntää kolmivuotisia projektiapurahoja tutkimusryhmille. Emil Aaltosen Säätiö on ollut mukana säätiöiden ja rahastojen yhteisessä post doc –poolissa sen ensimmäisestä kolmivuotiskaudesta (2010) alkaen. Poolin kautta myönnetään apurahoja tohtorien ulkomaiseen työskentelyyn.

HELSINKI DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL

There is a documentary movie about fusion called Let there be light at this year’s Helsinki DocPoint film festival. It tells about the ITER project under construction in Southern France and about two privately funded companies working on fusion, General Fusion and LPP Fusion. The length of the movie is 80 min.
