“Simulations and Measurements of Radionuclide Calibrator Response”

Abstract: Nuclear medicine is a medical specialty that uses radionuclides to examine organ function and structure in addition to treating various diseases. Diagnosis and treatment are performed by administering radiopharmaceuticals–chemical compounds labelled with a radioactive isotope–to a patient. Because absorbed dose to the patient is proportional to the activity of the radiopharmaceutical, it is important to conduct accurate activity measurements prior to administration and after. These activity measurements are done using a radionuclide calibrator.

The aim of this work was to investigate both computationally and experimentally, how differing measurement conditions affect the response of radionuclide calibrators and to explain the physical principles behind the observed results.
