CLICMeChanICs

Marie Curie Linking Industry to CERN

WP 3 Machining

Description

The objective of this work package is to exchange knowledge and provide key information relating CLIC component manufacturing and design between CLIC and precision manufacturing company Tarkmet Oy. The information exchange will benefit both parties involved in the exchange by increasing the understanding of CLIC requirements on one hand, and the possibilities of manufacturing CLIC components with high accuracy on the other hand.

Manufacturing specialist from Tarkmet will be integrated to CERN's RF structure production team in charge of manufacturing the X-band RF structures for CLIC study. The exchange of knowledge concentrates in the area of high-accuracy RF component manufacture and design, ultra high vacuum  (UHV) components and materials. The work will consist of research on the influence of the annealing cycle on the fabrication tolerances and study of the fabrication process and the industrialisation of the component fabrication as well as the corresponding mass production.

A experienced Research from CERN is seconded to Tarkmet Oy to exchange the knowledge regarding the CLIC requirements and the reasons behind them for high accuracy components.

Realisation

A designer from Tarkmet Oy (FI) is working at CERN for 12 months in 2013-1014.

Scientist from CERN joins Tarkmet manufacturing department for 2 months in 2013-2014.
